To complement your unique teaching talents (i.e. your special superpower!), I've curated a tailored set of resources just. for. you.
On any given day, if an administrator were to peer into your classroom, he or she would struggle to find you...and that's because you're usually bent low in a huddle of students, coaching them through their work, rather than standing-to-deliver at the front of the classroom.
Students are perched in any corner of the room, dialed in and working to the tune of soft deadlines. A collaborative spirit fills the air as they swap -n- share tactics amongst each other.
But perhaps the best part about your superpower is this...
When it comes to learning truly, madly, deeply with your students, you go all in.
No test is too big, no individual need is too small; you let nothing get in the way of your students' best interests and genuine happiness while under your care.
Three cheers for your foundationally firm yet flexible nature because, hint: this field needs you!
because every great leader needs a plan...
Now that we've drilled down into your core teaching talents, why not use this knowledge as power?! It's time to spring into action and level-up learning.
Like Lucius to Batman, or Edna to the Incredibles, I've been working on some new gadgets to enhance your awesome capabilities.
Innovator Jeff Bezos is known for asking this powerful question:
'Do we own the process, or does the process own us?'
When you shift toward student needs + natural interests, lean in for as long as you need to, knowing that the deeper you go, the more likely they are to remember that experience forever.
(And there's nothing more powerful than that, superhero!)
As an educator, it truly takes Herculean effort to reach each child. In a buzzing classroom like yours, it can sometimes feel like you're being pulled in one too many directions at once.
And while you want to pour every ounce of your might into their needs, remember to step back and ask:
'What decisions am I making for my learners that they can make for themselves?'
(And this doesn't just go for content-related decisions; this goes for grading, too!)
With your style, values, and drive, there's no doubt your students are invested in whatever you're teaching.
Do an audit of your learning experiences by asking yourself this:
Do the projects my students cover engage or do they empower?
Their passion is the precursor to your impact...invite them to co-design learning with their interests + future in mind.
