GET THE ACTIVITY

Setting the mood, and selling the idea

Movie trailers are marketing magic. They are meant to share just enough of the exciting moments of a film to give the audience an idea of what the film is about, but not give away too much of the good stuff. How does a trailer producer make those decisions. In this project, students will explore that role in more depth.

The Assignment

This activity makes writing more purposeful and strategic. Students will not only create a trailer for a documentary, but they will also create a complete concept for the fictional documentary as well. This takes a decent amount of research on the topic they've chosen to document as well as planning, filming, and thoughtful production choices.
